Solar farm for NMMU

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University may soon have its own on-campus solar photovoltaics (PV) farm. The University last week called for tenders for the establishment of the 1MW solar PV farm, which will be situated next to the postgraduate student village on NMMU’s Summerstrand campus.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) is committed to putting the welfare of its students first. That’s the word of NMMU Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Institutional Support Dr Sibongile Muthwa who was speaking at the launch of a new 24-hours computer laboratory at the University’s Bird Street Campus in Central.

AN in-depth assessment of room and lab use at NMMU saw project workers literally counting heads in all lecture venues across all six campuses – and also led to the production of accurate Geographical Informational System (GIS) data for the entire university.

The amazing NMMU BtC students (Beyond the Classroom) were celebrated recently for giving of themselves so selflessly in many outreach projects.

One of the learning lessons in the Programme is the understanding that together everyone can make a difference.  And that is what a BtC member and five friends did; R1 at a time.

AT first glance, Hilton Sansom is your stereotypical “privileged student”. The well-spoken, well-dressed 22-year-old attended Grey High, matriculated in 2011 with a 93% aggregate, and received one of Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s most prestigious bursaries – the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship, currently worth R80,000-plus annually – for each year of his BCom (Chartered Accountancy) degree.

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University welcomes Yoliswa Lumka as our new Director of Madibaz Sport.

Ms Lumka completed her bachelor's degree in Human Movement Sciences at Rhodes University before moving to the University of Pretoria, where she obtained her master’s degree in sports science.
